If you are buying a used Homelite chainsaw or already own one please be aware that chain saws with the following model numbers have been recalled by the manufacturer. UT10514, UT10516, UT10517, UT10518, UT10520, UT10540, UT10560 and UT10918. Chain saws that are affected were manufactured between Nov 2007 and Aug 2008. The date of manufacture and the model no can be found on the date plate which is beneath the rear handle. Some products have a green dot sticker under the handle area, these are not subject to this recall.
These chain saws were sold by Home Depot from December 2007 and October 2008 and were made in China. They are being recalled as the brake can fail on first application. If you have one of these chain saws do not use and contact Homelite Consumer Products to find an authorised dealer for a free repair.
