Chain Saw Maintenance - Turning the Guide Bar

After about 10 hours of use the bar should be removed and turned to allow for even wear. Check that there is not excessive wear on the bar and replace if necessary. Turn the bar following the instructions below.

  1. Loosen and remove the retaining nuts on the clutch and sprocket covering and remove.
  2. Turn the chain tension adjustment screw counterclockwise to loosen the chain. The screw can be found close to the guide bar on the front of the housing for the motor.
  3. Take off the chain
  4. Take off the protection plate for the bar.
  5. Take off the bar, turn it over and replace by reversing the previous steps.
